There are big questions that haunt all of us. What happens when I die? Where will I spend eternity? The single most important question that you will ever answer is this–“If I were to die today, would I spend eternity in Heaven with God?” What would you say if you asked yourself that question? Let’s see what God, Who knows everything about eternity, has to say about this most important question. |
What does God say we need to do to go to Heaven?
Who is good?
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one”
Romans 3: 10
God tells us that no one is perfect.
Who has sinned?
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”
Romans 3: 23
God tells us in His Word, the Bible, that we all have sinned. We have all fallen short of God’s requirements, for at one time or another, we have all deliberately chosen to disobey God.
Where did sin come from?
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”
Romans 5: 12
God tells us that because of Adam, we are all born with a sin nature.
What is the penalty for sin?
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”
Romans 6: 23
A wage is a payment due. God says that the payment due because we have sinned is death and separation from Him in a place that is called Hell.
How can we escape the penalty for sin?
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
The word “commendeth” means “proved.” God says that He proved His love for us by giving His own Son, Jesus to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin for us.
“…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23b
God says He has provided escape from the penalty of our sin because of His Son Jesus, but it is a gift to us…it cannot be earned by good works.
What do I need to do to receive this gift of Heaven from God?
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:9
God says that to believe on Jesus Christ as Saviour means to believe that He died for you, believe that He paid the price for your sin, and believe that He is the only way to Heaven. You can express your belief on Jesus by calling on Him in prayer.
PRAY SINCERELY
You can pray something like this,
“Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that you died on the cross and paid the penalty for my sin. I believe that you rose from the dead three days later. I am placing my faith in you alone to forgive my sin and save me. I would like to receive your gift of Heaven as I realize I cannot earn Heaven with good works. Thank you for giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
You will never regret that decision to trust Jesus as your Saviour! If you have just trusted Christ, we would love to know about your decision. We would love to give you a Bible and some other materials to help you learn about your new relationship with Jesus!
